Terry Fox Run Marathon of Hope at CIS

Terry Fox Run Marathon of Hope

These were the last words of Terry Fox, legendary Canadian activist, and athlete. Despite losing his right leg to bone cancer, he felt motivated and inspired; Terry wanted to make a difference for cancer patients like himself.

Fox aimed to run across Canada to raise awareness and money for cancer treatment and research. His daunting journey spanned 5,373 kilometers, from Newfoundland to Ontario, and lasted 134 days. Over this time, Terry touched the hearts of thousands, inspired youngsters, and showed the world the true meaning of courage, resilience, and perseverance. Unfortunately, his ‘Marathon of Hope’ came to a devastating end after his cancer spread to his lungs – Fox passed away in 1981.

Nevertheless, his spirit lives on through the Terry Fox Foundation and the Terry Fox runs hosted globally. Today, the Terry Fox Foundation has raised $850 million for cancer research and has 4 million supporters. Here, in Bangalore, India, nearly 11,600 km away from Terry’s starting point, his legacy is honored through Canadian International School’s Terry Fox Marathon.

After hosting remote runs for two years, Canadian International School is happy to announce that our Terry Fox Marathon is back, in-person, for its 12th year. And it’s better than ever!

Over the years, the Terry Fox Marathon has become an integral part of our school’s core values. Fox was, is, and will continue to be a beacon of hope for all cancer patients across the world. Our students always keep Fox’s words in mind before starting any new endeavours: “I am not a quitter and nobody can ever call me a quitter”. Terry Fox didn’t quit till the end, and so we will not.

Until now, Canadian International School has successfully raised over 10 lakhs in support of Terry Fox’s goals and has donated the proceeds to Bangalore-based organizations. Help us keep this going by donating or purchasing a TFR T-shirt to aid our goal of raising 500,000 INR. These funds will be donated to the Tata Memorial Foundation for their cancer research initiative.

Join the faculty and students of Canadian International School as we continue Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope. It will be held on September 24, 2022; this run is free for all participants, and you are welcome to walk, run, or cycle to the endpoint. To participate, use the link below and sign up!
