CAS

CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) is at the heart of the IB Diploma Programme and is one of the required components of the DP core.

  • Creativity — exploring and extending ideas leading to an original or interpretive product or performance
  • Activity — physical exertion contributing to a healthy lifestyle
  • Service — collaborative and reciprocal engagement with the community in response to an authentic need

Our IB students continuously engage in a variety of individual and group CAS experiences for at least 18 months, ideally on a weekly basis, with a reasonable balance between creativity, activity, and service.

The students weekly document their CAS experiences on the Toddle platform using the framework of the five CAS stages – Investigation, Preparation, Action, Reflection and Demonstration.

Aims of CAS Program

The CAS program aims to develop students who:

  • Enjoy and find significance in a range of CAS experiences
  • Purposefully reflect upon their experiences
  • Identify goals, develop strategies and determine further actions for personal growth
  • Explore new possibilities, embrace new challenges and adapt to new roles
  • Actively participate in planned, sustained, and collaborative CAS projects
  • Understand they are members of local and global communities with responsibilities towards each other and the environment.

CAS Learning Outcomes

CAS and 3C's of Learning

Our CAS  program supports the 3Cs of learning – Conceptual, Competency and Character learning. Students can extend their subject learning to their CAS experiences and vice versa. It will strengthen their subject understanding and knowledge and allow them to enjoy different approaches to their subjects. By engaging in and documenting their CAS experiences, the students:

  • develop and enhance their thinking, communication, social, self-management, and research skills (ATL skills)
  • practise and demonstrate the IB learner profile attributes in real and practical ways; to be ‘inquirers’, ‘knowledgeable’, ‘thinkers’, ‘communicators’, ‘principled’, ‘open-minded’, ‘caring’, ‘risk-takers’, ‘balanced’ and ‘reflective
  • develop an appreciation for and regularly practise CIS core values of ‘Joy’, ‘Caring’, ‘Integrity’, ‘Inspiration’ and ‘Respect

CAS experiences must be distinct from, and may not be included or used, in the student’s Diploma course requirements.
