The goal of learning at CIS is to inspire students to be the best they can be. We seek to develop students as individuals who achieve their full potential. The progression from Elementary to Middle School curriculum is smooth. Cambridge Lower Secondary develops learners’ skills and understanding in Mathematics, English and Science for the first three years of secondary education. It also provides excellent preparation for Cambridge IGCSE and the IB program.

Cambridge Lower Secondary 
We follow the Cambridge Lower Secondary Curriculum for English, Math, Global Perspectives and Science. This is a continuation of the Cambridge Primary Curriculum offered in Elementary School to make the transition seamless.

How We Work
Subject teacher specialists create a learning environment conducive to a transformative learning process in which students develop Conceptual understanding, Competencies and Character (the 3C’s). Students, guided by teachers, set their own goals and are encouraged to show their learning in many different ways – not just with tests and quizzes but through presentations, peer assessment and demonstrations, to name but a few. Twice a year, student-led conferences are opportunities for middle schoolers to show their learning and achievement of their goals. Hence at CIS, students ‘own’ their learning progress and are more ‘invested’ as a result.

Class Structure

  • 4 teaching daily blocks on a 2-day schedule (blocks of 90 min Mon-Wed and 75 min on Thu & Fri)
  • One advisory period every day dedicated to clubs, house team events, assemblies & pastoral care.
  • Advisory as ‘‘Office Hours’ on Fridays for academic support for students who wish to work with teachers one-on-one.
  • All students study English, Math, Science, PE, Global Perspectives, a world language & a choice of one year-long Mastery course (Concert Band, Chorale, Maker Space-ICT, Drama Players, Art Mastery) and two ‘try-it’ semester courses (Art Intro, Band Intro,  Music, Choir,, Drama Players, Band and Drama)
