Best known for the groundbreaking ‘Hole in the Wall’ experiment, his research demonstrated how children in unsupervised settings can teach themselves using the internet. His work has profoundly influenced education worldwide, shaping new models of learning.

Currently Professor Emeritus at NIIT University, Rajasthan, India, Sugata Mitra holds a Ph.D. in theoretical physics. He retired in 2019 after 13 years as Professor of Educational Technology at Newcastle University, UK, including a tenure as a Visiting Professor at MIT Media Lab, USA (2012).

His interests span multiple disciplines, including Children’s Education, Self-Organising Systems, Remote Presence, Cognitive Systems, Complex Dynamical Systems, Physics and Consciousness. Since the 1970s, his work has impacted millions of learners globally, particularly in underserved communities.

The long-term effects of his work on education, society and the global economy continue to unfold, offering a glimpse into the future of learning.
